Is it the right moment? I must admit that the answer is difficult thinking about the future of our Architecture magazine, born in the midst of the environment of our Architectural College, currently undergoing a period of change and renewal.
Let’s define it clearly. It’s a magazine for architects and those interested in architecture created by the Architect’s College of the Valencian Community. The College edits, gives institutional support to, and guarantees the distribution of the journal, and the quartely magazine born today, V-iA, will become a great success if the production team tune in to current demand and interest.
We are an important collectivce of 2.500 architects who have contributed greatly towars information, debate and the creation of opinion in a region of more than three million inhabitants. We are a group comprised of several centres of theory and professional work of high reputation, both public and private, with two Architecture Schools, one well established and the other recently set up. A business sector exists, essential in our work, which is always willing to collaborate with our projects of mutual interest, and a regional government that offers its support in launching nwe projects.

Under these circunmstances we have analysed seriously whether now is the right moment to "go ourt into ghe street". Our own government programme gives us an incentive to do this, and the existence of a goup of architects connected to the Centres of Service and Information of Valencia (which set the projects up), alicante and Castellón who are keen to see it get off the ground, with a team redy to write articles for this first stage prepares us and... we accept the challenge.
Could the initiative fail? In the short term clearly not. Appropiate measures have already been taken: financing assured for the first year, the exact period of production and more than enough time to be able to allow the necessary collaboration between interested groups of architects, in order to judge is writing-up and administration for the next three years.
And later? I believe, as i mentioned before, that if we "put our noses to the grindstone", if its contents interest us and those involved in it do well in it do well in their contributions and editorial discipline, then neither will it fail in the long term.

THIS MAGAZINE, WE WANT TO SHOW, IS A KIND OF "CULTURAL AGITATOR" WHICH EXPRESSES THE OPINION OF WHOEVER THE DIRECTORS MAY BE, WHAT WE WANT AND DEMAND. IT WILL BE LIVELY, CURRENT, SOCIALLY INVOLVED AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROFESSION AS ONE WITHOUT PREJUDICES, FREE, PROGRESSIVE AND COMITTED. It will not be jhust an information pamphlet, or a showy, consumerist magazine and, without wishing to offend anyone, nor will it a "parish rag", mouthpiece of the local government or the deacon. Nothing could be further from our intention.

We demostrated our commitment to culture and architectural debate in our candidature two years ago and we continuie to adhere to the same principles. The appearance of edtitorials will be reserved for themes and important issues and the opinion of the college will be reflecte in them. Our obligation will be reserved for themes and importanta issues and the opinion of the college will be reflecte in them. Our obligation will be to select, for open co-operation and distribution. We shall not leave aside other initiatives coming from other sources which will serve to enrich both the magazine and the cultural debate, which we would like to be pluralist and complementary.
They have transmitted hope and optimism to us all.
We have the world!
