Acciones temporales e interiorismo/Temporary installations and interior design

Exploring the possibilities of the city as a place of cultural encounter and of culture as the driving force for an Ideal City was one of the objectives of BIENALVLC2003. The aim of this project, the context of our installation, was to integrate cultural activities into the daily life of city-dwellers through ephemeral architecture.

We wanted to reinforce the popularising nature of this idea by emphasising the media nature of its contents - art magazines and Sunday supplements - through a talking container of two concentric boxes. The interior one spoke of the magazines it contained. The exterior one enveloped the other and advertised the Biennial.

We built a three-dimensional shop window, working with a single material, glass, to underline the temporary character of the installation. Its reflections multiplied the object and its surroundings, superimposing various realities in an intentionally complex and ambiguous play of vibrations. Its transparency gave us imprecise, diffuse limits, emphasising its pursuit of lightness and immateriality.

It was an ambiguous, kaleidoscopic object, changing with the light and angle of view, a colourful prism that contrasted with the white, organic forms of the space that harboured it.
